Scott Maness

On Thursday, January 9, 2003 at approximately 9:45 pm Florence County 9-1-1 Operations Manager, Scott Anthony Maness was in route to his home in Coward, SC, when he was fatally injured in a head on collision. The driver of the other vehicle was convicted of Felony DUI.  

Scott Maness, 41, was born in Bethesda Md., he was a son of Carl and Yvonne Cassidy Maness.  He was a graduate of Francis Marion University.  Scott was a past member of the Marlboro Rescue Squad, a former employee with the Horry County EMS, past Director of the Marlboro County Emergency Services, and former Lieutenant of the Communications Division of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.  He was serving as Operations Manager of Central Dispatch / E9-1-1, Florence County Emergency Management Department at the time of his death.  

Scott came to work in Florence in 1995 soon after the implementation of E9-1-1 and consolidated county wide Central Dispatch.  Scott played a key role in the organization and development of Central Dispatch as we know it today.  Scott was a true team member and led the team by setting the example of strong character and leadership.   

Scott was a member of various professional organizations and served in leaderships positions of many of them. These organizations include NENA (the National Emergency Number Association), and SC Chapter Executive Board Secretary, APCO (the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials), and SC Chapter member, and SCLGCA, (SC Local Governments Communications Association member). In January 2000 Scott was awarded the ENP (Emergency Number Professional) National Certification by NENA.

Scott was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church in Bennettsville.  

Surviving are:  his parents, of Bennettsville, a brother, Pat Maness (Jan) of Rock Hill, a sister, Teresa Maness Clark (Chuck), of Pageland, nieces, Elizabeth Turner and Whitney Maness.







Patricia Daniels Miller

On Friday, February 15, 2008 Patricia Miller passed away after a long battle with breast cancer. 

Born in Dillon County, June 5, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Major Daniels and Clara Wiggins Daniels.  

Patricia came to work at Dillon County E9-1-1 in 1991 beginning the implementation of E9-1-1 and consolidating county wide Central Dispatch.   

Patricia was a member of various professional organizations. These organizations include NENA (the National Emergency Number Association), SC Chapter Executive Board Vice President-Pee Dee Region, APCO (the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials), LEPC (the Local Emergency Planning Committee) and the Counter Terrorism Cordination Council.  Patricia was awarded the ENP (Emergency Number Professional) National Certification by NENA.

Patricia was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Dillon.

Survivors include her husband, Robert D. Miller of Dillon; children, Joe (Robin) Hunter of Monroe, NC and Danny Hunter of Indian Trail, NC; step-children, Dianne (Thomas) Gibson of Richmond, VA, Doug (Debbie) Miller of Dillon, Wanda (Glenn) Collins of Smithfield, NC and Robbie Miller of New York; brother, Bryan (Rhonda) Daniels of Myrtle Beach, Bobby (Pat) Daniels of Latta and Major "Buddy" Daniels Jr. of Merritt Island, FL; sisters, Mary (Bill) Barfield of North August, SC, Linda (Raymond) Thibodeau of Darlington, Judy (Vernon) Martin, Evelyn (Marvin) Frakes and Cathy Mullican of Lugoff; grandchildren, Leslie Miller-Moody, Doug Miller, III, Glenn Collins, II, Katherine Collins, Patrick Collins, Caroline Gibson, Stacey Hunter, Kristin Hunter and Chasity Hunter; 5 great-grandchildren.

Patricia was preceded in death by her son, Michael Hunter; grandson, Brandon Hunter; sisters, Christine Ecklin
, Eleanor Owens, Johnny Sue Ivey
; brother, Russell Daniels.
